Club description

Townsend Bowls Club is recognised as being at the forefront of bowls both in St Albans and Hertfordshire. Our fixture list caters for bowlers of all levels from friendly practices (roll ups, usually midweek), mixed matches on evenings and weekends, through to competitive District, County and National competitions.

We also provide coaching for new bowlers, and two of our members - a husband and wife team - have been awarded special county accreditation, enabling them to specialise in ensuring that beginners get off to the best possible start. Our club is recognised for its hospitality, friendliness as well as first class facilities in our modern, well equipped, clubhouse. Touring clubs are most welcome, so if you are thinking of playing a match in the beautiful city of St. Albans then look no further!  Why not visit the city in the morning, with its amazing Abbey, Roman Verulamium, ancient streets and huge array of shops, then have lunch, followed by a match on our highly regarded  6 or 7 rink green. Finish the day with drinks and a meal in our modern well equipped club house.

We offer a heavily subsidised introductory subscription for beginners so why not pop along to see our facilities, try the game before making any commitment, and  enjoy a quiet drink and a chat? Alternatively ring Peter Thomson on 01727 864453 or make contact via,  to discuss how you can come along and have a go. All you require are flat shoes, such as trainers. We will provide everything else, including specialist advice!

Why not join us on one of our Taster Days on Wed 12th April 10am to 1pm or Sat 15th April 1pm to 4pm.

Townsend Bowls Club, 8 Waverley Road, AL3 5PA

We look forward to seeing or hearing from you.
