The St Albans Bowling Club is the oldest bowls club in St Albans, founded in 1903, and is located in the delightful setting of Clarence Park. It has historical links with Sam Ryder, who bequeathed a silver cup to the Club long before he discovered golf. There is a current mixed membership of over 100 people and the Club is always eager to welcome new members.
Bowls is a sport for all ages, genders and abilities. It is gaining in popularity as it is inexpensive and easy to learn, and is no longer perceived as an older persons sport. Free coaching is available at our Club for prospective members with all equipment provided. Open Days are usually held at the start of each season.
The summer season runs from April to September and throughout this period both single gender and mixed matches are played. These range from internal competitions within the Club to representative matches against other clubs in Hertfordshire and competitions at county and district level. For those who prefer less competitive matches, there are informal sessions called “roll-ups” to be enjoyed during the week.
In addition to actively participating in the sport, the Club prides itself on its sociable atmosphere and a number of events are arranged during the season and through the winter months in its licensed clubhouse.
