Volunteering

In order for sports clubs and organisations to be able to function or expand, many clubs rely on a team of volunteers to deal with everything from the hands on coaching, to administration or even managing finances.

If you are able to offer your time or skills to a local sports club/organisation you can benefit in many ways ranging from:

  • Making new friends
  • Maintaining skills
  • Adding to existing skills[images/event volunteering] Event Volunteering
  • Keeping fit!

Examples of some of the support currently required by

sports clubs/organisations includes:

  • Lifeguard/lifesaver
  • Funding officer
  • Website administrator
  • Video camera operator
  • Drivers
  • Coaches

In order to ensure there is ongoing access to, and opportunities for, sports volunteers in the District, Active St Albans is working very closely with the Centre for Voluntary Service (CVS) St Albans, also known as the St Albans Volunteer Centre.

What is a Volunteer Centre?

Volunteer Centres are a one-stop-shop for finding out about becoming a volunteer or recruiting volunteers. By visiting the St Albans Volunteer Centre website you can find out about the work they do to find the best volunteering opportunities for you, whether by coming in for a chat with an advisor or by searching online.

St Albans Volunteer Centre is a service provided by St Albans Centre for Voluntary Service whose aims are to promote and support all voluntary and community activity in the District. The support that St Albans CVS can provide ranges from funding and development advice, training, equipment and much more. By visiting our website you can download forms to register your request for volunteers.

Sports Leaders UK

We create and award courses and qualifications in sports leadership.  We believe that everybody has the potential to make a meaningful contribution to their local community, but not everyone has the opportunity or motivation. Uniquely our qualifications don’t just teach people how to organise sport; they also start them on the path to a lifetime of volunteering.  The real end product is not just a nationally approved certificate; it is a trained and willing volunteer who wants to make a difference to their community.

Last year 180,000 people of all ages took a Sports Leader Award.  They are now making a difference to sport in their community, helping others to achieve their potential and to become more active and healthy.

To find out more about Sports Leaders UK and the award courses and qualifications they can offer, visit their website by clicking here.
